How to scam-proof your travel abroad

Travelling is a great way to unwind and enjoy what life has to offer, but that doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t be mindful of your safety.

Scams abound in every part of the world.  As the travel industry grows in popularity, scammers and other criminals are also growing in numbers, devising ways to trick unsuspecting tourists from transportation overcharge and forced purchases to ATM skimming and credit card fraud.

PSBank advises travelers to exercise caution when setting foot in foreign lands. Here are some safety measures you can take for a scam-free and enjoyable vacation:

Inform your bank or Credit Card Company if you're travelling outside of the country. Although most banks have systems in place where they will send you an SMS alert to confirm a purchase before they are processed, and/or a text message and email notification to inform you of your transactions, you will be helping your bank monitor and secure your accounts from any suspicious usage by informing them of your travel plans. This way your bank won’t assume that your debit, prepaid or credit card is being used fraudulently and block it.

Be wary of public wifi.
Hackers can easily set up "free" public WiFi networks and bait people to use them so they can sniff your login passwords or use your accounts while you're still logged in to the websites without the need for your password. Always ask the hotel, coffee shop or airport personnel their valid WiFi hotspots for guests. If you have to connect to a free WiFi network, never use it to log in to your email, social media or bank accounts.

Never provide debit or credit card details via phone, text or email.
Emails and texts were not created with data privacy in mind. Unencrypted email is an unsecure way to send sensitive information. Emails, SMS, or phone calls can be hacked, spoofed, and eavesdropped. When travelling, it is best to avoid providing personal and financial information through these channels.

Look for the lock.
Aside from a web address that begins with “https:” where “s” stands for ‘secure’, a lock icon on your browser is another indication that the site you are on is safe to use. When booking plane tickets and hotels, or when making online purchases, make sure you can see the padlock symbol in the address bar, before you provide your personal or financial details.

Keep your card visible when making payments.
When paying for your purchases and services using your debit or credit card, make sure that they process your payment in your presence. This way, your card is visible and always with you.  Thus, preventing multiple unauthorized card swipes and skimming.

Monitor your accounts regularly.
Monitor your accounts even when you are abroad to ensure that there are no unauthorized transactions. For added security to PSBank Debit and Prepaid Mastercard cardholders, turn on the ATM Lock feature in your PSBank Online or PSBank Mobile App to keep your account safe from ATM skimming and other card-based electronic fraud.

Be vigilant.
If you think that your bank account has been compromised or noticed any suspicious movements, report it immediately by calling your bank’s customer service hotline.

“Learning how to secure your accounts and avoid obvious threats goes a long way in protecting your personal information and money most especially when you travel,” says PSBank First Vice President for Information Security Dan Jose Duplito.

Kris Aquino, the main brand ambassador of Ever Bilena shares her secret

Dioceldo Sy, CEO of Ever Bilena and the "main" ambassador Kris Aquino

Today January 27, 2018 the "Queen of All Media" and "The people of the Year" awardee Kris Aquino partners with Philippines' iconic brand and the country's no.1 color cosmetics retail company, Ever Bilena.

Ever Bilena's success is built on credibility and that is what the newest ambassador brings. Over the years, the brand has evolved along with its growing market by providing fresh and trendy color cosmetics to women of different lifestyles. They have been in the business for 35 years ( whoa! I was only 3yo then). Not only is Ever Bilena the leader in color cosmetics but also it is a Filipino brand. (I should be proud! We should love local brands 😍) My mom and I are #EB ladies, btw.

Like most retail products, Ever Bilena is facing a new generation of users. "Makeup trends, such as fashionable colors, change  so quickly because of social media and online platforms. We welcome this challenge with innovative products for everyone who wants to be beautiful and confident," says Ever Bilena CEO Dioceldo Sy.

As the newest ambassador for the cosmetics brand the "Queen of All Media" is all set to try Ever Bilena's over 1000 (!!!) products. From eye shadows, mascaras, BB creams and concealers, to fragrances, lipsticks, palettes and tools, makeup lovers can expect a lot of excitement from the partnership.

"Looking good is no longer a luxury," said Sy. Ever Bilena's products are affordable πŸ‘Œ (swak na swak sa budget), but known to be of high quality and trusted by generations. "It's easy to make money, but it's very hard to earn credibility, which should always be the foundation and capital of any business," Sy said.

During the Q&A,  Kris Aquino shares makeup tips...

1. Swatch - test the product first to know if you are "hiyang" or if there'll be allergic reactions before buying and the best part to swatch is on the neck.

2. Hoard - if you found something that you really love and suits you ... hoard na !

3. Lippies -  lippies can last for up to 3 years( average) as long as it is still sealed and not placed on direct sunlight

4. Go to a professional and ask help to fix your kilay (eyebrows), because we all know that #KilayIsLife. "Kapag maganda ang kilay mo, kahit wala kang kahit ano sa mukha... maganda ka na.", says Kris.

Let's talk about B-E-A-U-T-Y

Beauty quotes/tips from Kris:

1. Beauty comes from not engaging to negativity. πŸ‘Œ

2. Beauty is making other people feel good about themselves. 😍

3. Ageing gracefully is important.
   a. Take care of your skin by avoiding the sun between 10am-2pm.
   b. Drink lotsa  water!!! Did you know that Kris drinks 5 liters of water a day? Yes, it's true. Watch the interview here .

4. Appreciating your flaws and highlighting what you know is good about you.

Lessons she learned from the late President Cory Aquino, her mom:

1. Half- no debts. Huwag umutang!

2. Everything is temporary. - when the times are tough you know that dadaan yun. But when the times are good, savor every minute of it, coz it's not gonna last forever.

3. Your children come first. - make time for what matters most. Learn what to prioritize.

4. Be good to the people who work for you and support you. -treat your people well, so there will be loyalty. Give them due respect .

5. Power of prayer - do not stop praying. Anytime, anything good happens to your life make sure to thank God and share the blessings.

6. Choose your battles wisely

T'was a star celebrities gazing event for me! 😍

Sun Life has been championing diabetes awareness since 2015. There were 3 obstacles designed to raise awareness about diabetes.
1. A limbo rock (which I got to try since I only ran 3KM) challenge reminded everyone to keep their health in check

2. A 100-step challenge gave reminders on how to infuse exercise in one’s daily routine

3. Sugar tunnel prompted everyone to watch their sugar intake.

We love supporting runs for a good cause. Sunlife's beneficiaries are Noordhoff Craniofacial Foundation, Hebreo Foundation, and the Star Magic scholars.

AXA Philippines launches Financial Needs Analysis platform

AXA Philippines, one of the country’s leading insurance companies, launched its Financial Needs Analysis (FNA) platform, as part of its commitment to empower people to live the life they choose by helping them create a solid financial game plan. The launch event was held last November 28, 2017 at the AXA Philippines head office in GT Tower International in Makati City.

The FNA is both a service and a tool that an AXA financial coach (or advisor) can use to explain to the customer in easy terms why life protection is important, especially in cases of unforeseen setbacks and emergencies. The financial coach can then help bridge the gap between where a customer is and where he wants to be, allowing the latter to set S.M.A.R.T (specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, and time-bound) goals, get a clear picture of his finances, and create a suitable financial plan towards making his dreams come true.

During the FNA session, a prospective customer will be asked to identify his current life stage and priorities—a key step in the process as financial needs change and become more complex as people grow older. The financial coach will then explain the advantages of different types of protection, and recommend the type of financial plan to make the customer’s vision a reality.

The FNA tool is complemented by the eFNA Lite, a page on the AXA Philippines website that offers the same functionality and benefits as the FNA tool, but with faster and easier implementation. The full-version FNA tool requires the assistance of a financial coach from AXA, while the eFNA Lite can be used by the customer by himself and within a shorter period. The eFNALite session ends with an invitation to connect with a real financial coach, should you already decide to start crafting that winning financial game plan.

The introduction of the FNA platform and the eFNA Lite website enables our customers to choose a plan that is suitable to their priorities in life,” says Rahul Hora, AXA Philippines president and CEO. “It creates a conversation, a connection, and a relationship with our agents, allowing them to grow with AXA.

Visit to get started on a session, or to get in touch with a financial coach to get started on your journey to executing your game plan so you can live the life you choose.

Bryson enjoyed more success with “If Ever You're in My Arms Again,” “Can You Stop the Rain;” “Through the Fire” and “Unconditional Love.” Bryson won his first Grammy® Award in 1992 for his performance of the song "Beauty and the Beast" with CΓ©line Dion. His second Grammy was awarded the following year for "A Whole New World" (Aladdin's Theme) with Regina Belle, being the only Disney song to make it to the Billboard top 100, and topping it at #1. With his tremendous crossover success, Peabo has transitioned into a world of international acclaim. Meet The New Maginoo

I was never a fan of pomade. Never liked how it smells and how sticky and greasy it feels.

Reminds me of an uncle who likes to use pomade everyday. He puts it in after taking a shower and even has it on before going to bed. πŸ˜‚ I just had to bear with the smell of it because he’s the grown up.

My eldest son uses a famous brand of hair wax. His favorite for years.

I had him try Slick Tight Pomade, and here’s what he said:
*washing his hands with water is enough to remove the pomade completely.

*it’s not sticky / greasy

*keeps the hair style in place.

*makes the hair shiny.

*smells great! and the scent gives a calming feel.

I tried Slick Tight Pomade once and yes, my son is right. So from being a hater, I'm now a lover of pomade (note: Slick Tight only!) And my son is a "switcher" πŸ˜‰

And now... meet #TheNewMaginoo 😍 here
